Consultations
The surgery has two well equipped consultation rooms and we offer 10 minute appointments per patient. Consultations are available throughout the day. We always aim to offer an appointment that is convenient for you and with the particular vet you would like to see.
Anaesthesia
We use the safest forms of pre-medicants and anaesthetic agents during general anaesthesia to ensure the safety of our patients. Qualified staff monitor patients constantly before, during and after a procedure and all details are recorded. We have advanced monitoring systems which allow us to measure various clinical parameters of the patients whilst anesthetized. Prior to anaesthesia we can perform a pre anaesthetic blood test to ensure internal organs are functioning correctly if appropriate.

Surgical procedures
The dedicated operating theatre environment is kept meticulously clean with a strict cleaning protocol. Staff numbers are restricted in this area of the practice to avoid contamination of surgical procedures. A wide range of surgical procedures are carried out on a daily basis. Our Veterinary surgeons are experienced and regularly undertake continued professional development to learn about the latest techniques and new treatments. A large range of surgical equipment is available as and when needed. Your vet will always be happy to discuss any specific concerns you may have about any surgical procedure.

Orthopaedic Surgery
Anne Nelson BVMS Cert SAO MRCVS is a certificate holder in Small Animal Orthopaedics and a member of the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association. Anne carries out specialist orthopaedic surgery and sees patients referred by local surgeries. She regularly carries out fracture repairs and cruciate ligament surgery, which often avoids the need to visit referral centres.
Diagnostics
Radiology - Our X-ray facilities enable us to obtain images ranging from the smallest mouse to the largest Great Dane! We are also equipped with the latest digital processors allowing fast processing of images, and the ability to store and view patient's X-rays more easily.
Ultrasound - We are equipped with advanced ultrasonography equipment. We carry out a large number of abdominal ultrasounds. Viewing the internal organs by ultrasound gives us a better picture of any problems and sometimes negates the need for exploratory surgery.
Rigid endoscope - Our latest piece of equipment is a brand new rigid endoscope complete with a large monitoring screen. This enables us to look inside ears, up noses, down throats and even into bladders.
ECG and Blood pressure machines- We are equipped with ECG (electro cardiogram) and a Blood pressure machine.

Laboratory
The surgery is equipped with a microscope and various commercial test kits. We also has a Biochemistry analyser which provides ‘In house' testing of blood samples particularly liver and kidney function and results are available within the hour.
"My Belgian Sheperd Kia was overweight and having problems with her joints. After blood tests were run she was found to have an under-active thyroid. We decided on advice from the vet to put her on medication and start her at the diet clinic. It is all going very well and to date she has lost 5kg!. I’m chuffed to pieces and Kia regularly gets weighed in at her “fat fighters” clinic!!"

Hospitalisation
We have a light and spacious kennel area which is warm and comfortable for both day patients and In-patients. If a patient requires hospitalisation we have a huge variety of foods to try and keep to your pet's familiar diet, as well as specialised diets to treat certain conditions. We also have an intensive care unit which allows us to perform Oxygen therapy very easily.
We encourage people to come and visit their animals when staying with us as this encourages the animal to feel at ease within the environment. We have a team of dedicated In-patient nurses who provide the treatments but also spend time with each individual animal.
Isolation unit
Should an animal require isolation due to a potential infectious condition such as cat flu or parvovirus in dogs, we have a specialised isolation unit with its own completely separate facilities. This enables ‘barrier nursing' to take place to ensure that any infections are contained.
" I started using Nelson’s as a Cats Protection fosterer, but after experiencing the top quality care and dedication shown by everyone at the surgery, I quickly transferred my own cats to their care. You are always greeted with a smile the minute you walk through the door until you leave. If you need to see a vet urgently they always slot you in, day, night or weekends. You can always speak to a vet and they will come to the surgery to see you- day or night. The care shown to all animals is second to none. Animals are not just a number but remembered by name."

NEW Senior Wellness Clinic
This clinic is run by Dawn Bas RVN A1 PHC. Dawn has a wealth of experience in dealing with older pets and she has designed a special clinic for dogs and cats over the age of 8yrs. The aim of the clinic is to give older pets a thorough check over to detect any early signs of age related conditions. The clinic involves a physical check but also blood and urine tests to check for underlying diseases. Dawn is able to then explain conditions and offer support and advice on how to keep you pet healthier for longer! For more information, please contact the South Croydon surgery.
NEW Youth Club
This clinic is run by Karen Davison RVN. The Youth club is for puppies and kittens from their 2nd vaccination through to approximately 6 months of age. It involves a FREE monthly check up to weigh and worm your pet, aswell as discussing relative health issues for younger animals as they reach maturity. Some of the topics covered are neutering, diet and nutrition, grooming, how to health check your pet, training and socialisation, dental health and benefits of pet insurance. Youth Club is ideal for owners that have not owned a dog or cat before, but everyone is welcome.
Rescue Work
We treat animals from the RSPCA, Cats Protection and Croydon Animal Samaritans to name a few. As a practice, Anne Nelson Vets believes in helping cruelly treated or unwanted animals to find the loving homes they deserve. It is important to say that there is a wide age range of animals that require homes. It is a common misconception that it is only older animals that need a home; there are often kittens and young dogs as well. With that in mind, please consider contacting one of the charities below before spending money on a new kitten or puppy.
If you feel you could offer fostering or general volunteering for any of these charities then please see the contact details below.

"Ive been coming to Nelson’s since the 1970s. My animals have always received excellent care, especially my dog ‘Barney’ who came nearly every week for a year. All the staff are so kind and professional and they really like animals."
